9/11 Unity Walk (NW DC)September 12, 2011
The 9/11 Unity Walk brings together people of all ages, backgrounds and faiths to learn to respect each other through a framework of experiential education, compassionate leadership and intentional service.
This year commemorated the 10th anniversary of 9/11 and the 7th annual Unity Walk. The event began at Washington Hebrew Congregation with participants enjoying music, presentations, and a service opportunity/fair. Afterward, everyone proceeded on a walking tour to various sites along Massachusetts Avenue, including the National Gurdwara Sikh Temple and the St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral amongst others, before arriving at the Islamic Center of Washington. The gathering heard interfaith prayers and calls for unity, followed by a stirring gospel choir on the steps of the mosque. Just before sunset, the event concluded at the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial.
